Yesterday you got some basic definitions about your credit, what
it means to you, and why it's important.  If you didn't receive
yesterday's mailing "credit repair day 1" click here.

Today ~~NAME~~, you are going to discover whether you want to go
the do it yourself route or the hire a company route.  There are
pitfalls and advantages to each.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends a do it yourself
approach.  Click here for their take.  Repair Company Regulations

The case for do it yourself is simple: you have control, you
dispute, you know what is going on and you can track the
results of your credit repair campaign.  And yes it is a
campaign and that is the mindset you want to have.

The main drawbacks are the time it takes, the learning curve,
and the potential frustrations when the credit bureaus move
slower than you'd like (though the last one exists with repair
companies too).

The case for hiring a company is simple: none of your time
invested, no learning curve on how to dispute credit item
(time spent researching and finding good company to use), and
feeling like you are in professional hands.

The main drawbacks are the MONEY upfront and potentially monthly
fees, the complete lack of control, no updating and minimal
communication on the progress of yoru campaign

Reading your credit report can seem like reading Greek.  The
basic negative entries to concern yourself with ~~NAME~~, are
judgments, foreclosure, late pays, charge offs, bankruptcy,
repossession.  There are probably others but these are the main
ones.

Focus on these to maximize the use of your time.

Also, on you can decide which path is right for you.  This will
be based on your finances and time crunch situation in your life.

The best course for do it yourself credit repair is here.

I am currently doing research on credit repair companies to
separate the wheat from the chaff before making recommendations
to you.

I recommend at least at the start to do it yourself.  This will
give you knowledge and insight about the process so you can
evaluate whether a credit repair service is right for you.
